Welcome
I’m Kara and I’m so happy you stopped by!
In a nutshell:
- Writer, photographer, homebody, and perpetual overthinker…
- I write to unearth my thoughts
- Yoga helps me let them go
- I don’t believe in boredom—there are worlds to explore and write about!
- I’m most content when I’m creating—writing, taking photos, or playing in my art journal
- I’m also an accomplished couch potato—curling up with a book and a cup of tea
I’ve been writing as long as I can remember. Journals filled with thoughts and ideas, unfinished stories and novels… Ramblings on a page.
Boxes of books stashed in my family’s attic, provided early inspiration. Anne Shirley, Betsy Ray, Francie Nolan, and Laura Ingalls. Later, my list of heroines grew—Jane Eyre, Emma Woodhouse, Elizabeth Bennett, and so many more!
Later, finding joy in mysteries—Faith Fairchild, Goldie Schulz, Ruth Galloway, Inspector Gamache… (Three Pines… Oh my goodness, Three Pines ❤️)—ideas for my own mystery series began to bubble in my mind.
Today, I live in a tiny village nestled in Vermont’s Green Mountains—the inspiration for my mystery series. Traditional whodunnit mysteries with a big dash of cozy, I think of my stories as a cross between cozy mystery and women’s fiction. Each story’s murder takes place within the context of life in an idyllic village and explores the complexities of friendship, family, belonging, and what is means to find home.
Kara Lacey is the author of the Vermont Camera Club Mysteries (to be released September 2024). Along with her husband, she lives in a tiny village nestled in the beautiful Green Mountains of Vermont—the inspiration for her novels. Kara is a photography enthusiast who also enjoys hiking, skiing, and getting cozy with a good book. When she’s not at her laptop creating havoc for her characters, you will find her rambling through the forest with her husband and spirited Labrador retriever, camera in hand.
